Even though we live in Virginia (which is an ASD coverage state), and the insurance policy was written here, our ABA therapy is not being covered. We have exhausted our savings on ABA, but were advised getting an attorney would be the next step to fighting for coverage. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive lawyer with knowledge of this issue?
The plan is self-funded, does that mean we are out of luck?
I am not sure if the policy is self-funded or not, we will have to look into that.
The reason we were given for denial is that the company through which we get our insurance (a large consulting firm in DC) doesn't have it in the policy. We'll definitely reach out to the Virginia Autism Project. We are desperate to keep our son in ABA, he has made so many improvements with it!
Thank you!!
Is it a self-funded policy? That is the big loophole of autism mandates.
