Anyone Out There Using Essential Oils?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I recently attended a ladies event where I learned that essential oils can be targeted to treat behaviors in autism. Anyone already trying this or have any advice?

Be very careful with them if you have a child with sensory issues because the string smells can bother them and make things worse. If you are going to try do it with small amounts and get sample sizes so you don't spend a lot of money in case you get a bad reaction.

I know moms who swear by Jeddy's blend, but have not tried it myself. http://healingwithessentialoils.me/2013/08/14/w...

There is actually some research that suggests that lavender oil can help reduce anxiety. Although most people infuse it into the air, I think the research suggested greater effectiveness when taking it in pill form.

This seems a little odd to me, but I think they were talking about a mixture of oils that included lavender.

The human body digests oils in odd ways, so it is important to do your research. A good place to start may be: http://www.med.nyu.edu/content?ChunkIID=37427

Also, something that may work great for one person might completely fail for another. Sometimes the only way to know is to give it a try. Always put safety first, though. There are some people out there who will try to sell all sorts of quackery, because they know parents are desperate.
