Has anyone had any luck with requesting meeting notes between professional such as OT and teacher when consult services are listed on child's IEP?
I want to make sure that consult is truly happening and wondering if anyone has any luck with a good way to monitor the consult?
Absolutely a good idea. I always keep a list of what each provider does for my son. This way I can check to make sure that they are working together. I call the principal at my son's school when I need to meet and they know me because I also write weekly in a Communication Notebook. My son gets OT and Speech at school. He also gets outside OT and I wrote and signed a notice allowing both the OT at school and his outside OT to communicate. Sometimes I have noticed that one of them will work more on one thing than the other. At first I didn't like it but I've learned to appreciate the OTs for the different approaches that they have. We always discuss the goals, plans and progress. It's a great idea to stay in the loop.
I am not too worried about actual services/therapy, as they do give me updates on what they are working on…but unfortunately I know how often "consult" becomes a one minute check in while teacher and therapist pass in the hallway. I need a way to make sure that consultation is actually happening.
