My son is 5 years old and is diagnosed with mild to moderate asd and moderate language disorder. He also has fine motor delays. He has a short attention span although I do think it has improved a little bit. Right now he can count to 16, recognizes numbers 1-9 except for number 7, recognizes almost all uppercase letters but not many lowercase letters, recognizes his name written out and can spell it out loud without seeing his name but can not write it. My son is also 5 yrs severe, and I found Abi Talk app is his favorite! The lite version isn't too bad, but I did end up upgrading it for I think 2.00.. it's been worth it..
Also as far as dvds rock n learn.. computer/you tube little baby bum.. I hope this was helpful :-)
Leapfrog learning pad did the trick for my son. It has different levels of learning from words, shapes, colors, learning how to write letters, pronouncing two, three, four letter words to learning how to read. Its awesome!
You might want to try "Count Sort Match". "Hungry Fish" has also gotten good reviews. My son's favorite game at that age was "Mathmateer", but I really don't recommend it unless your child is obsessed with numbers.
My son LOVED the hooked on phonics app. Problem is that I believe it's really expensive ($50-$60) They may have a lite version. Not only did he love the word games, it taught him the the foundations for sounding out words. At 5 he is now reading many 3-4 letter words and attempts sounding out larger words. We didn't teach him this- he got it from the app. Another great one that is a good alternative to video games is called My Playhome. It is calming and also helps teach daily routines like getting dressed, baths, brushing teeth, etc... One of my sons favorites by far.
