How Do We Get ABA Therapy
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am really new to all of this, so any suggestions are welcome. Luca was diagnosed through the school district in April with ASD. His medical eval is in June. Do I have to wait for a medical diagnosis to get ABA?

Kids not on the spectrum can buy ABA. You can start private-pay ABA anytime. To get ABA through Medicaid, you'll need to go through your state's steps and get a diagnosis and prescription from one of their preferred providers. If trying to go through employer or private insurance, talk to the insurance company, as not that many employers will cover it. If not, try to apply for Medicaid and see if Medicaid is forced to cover ABA in your state. It is in many. I just went through these hoops, so please let me know if you have any questions.

Go to a Regional Center. You can start there as well just incase your insurance does not cover it or the cost is high. Easter Seals does ABA, but get services asap. Good luck.

You can start aba without a diagnosis. Sometimes even when insurances cover aba, there's a deductible that you have to meet before they start paying for it.
