If a student has previously been evaluated 5 times all with the same educational and medical diagnosis of autism, is it possible to label a child as autism primary and emotional disturbance secondary under IDEA? What are the possible pros and cons? Thanks.
Yes. My son has a Dx of HFASD and Anxiety. Many of the issues which are part of the symtomology of autism exist as part of the disorder itself. However, if a mental health issue like depression or OCD becomes the dominant issue, it can have a separate DX and command more specific interventions. I hope that answered you question.
