Is TV Calming To Your Child?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Experts say that you shouldn't let a child watch tv before bed., but I have found that our nightly routine of two shows before bed with all the lights off and cuddling is the only thing that works to calm her down and get into a quiet, bedtime state. This is a difficult feat, considering she is extremely hyperactive. My 4 year old uses his nabi (tablet) to watch videos for 30/40 minutes before bed every night. Like your child this calms him down enough to fall asleep. Before that he would be up until 10:30/11. Now he's asleep between 8:30/9. In my opinion just because an expert says something doesn't mean its the "right" way. Do what works for your child and family.

My son has s lot of sleep issues and he uses his tablet before bed for about an hour, when he gets tired he calls me to come and get it. You do what you think is best and what works for you as long as you are not creating a bad behavior you are good. If you try something and it starts to be an issue back off on what you are doing before it gets set in. You will see this happening early so as soon as you notice issues make a change. In some instances meds are needed but that is up to you and your doctor. Don't let anyone tell you that you should not do it, it is ok if you have to. You are not giving up on your child, you are helping them when they are struggling. What is worse the med or the struggles.
