My 19 yo son with PDD-NOS has been looking for a job now for 2 years. No one will hire him. I need an employer that will give my son a chance! He's very bright and picks up quickly.
I recently liked something on Facebook that was a job service just for autistic people. Check out my Facebook. Its Karena Daniels Harwood. I have the autism speaks page liked. Hold on maybe I can get you a link..https://www.thespectrumcareers.com/ Check that out.
My son wasn't diagnosis until he was 32 years with PDD and had been diagnosed with everything else under the sun. He finished college with a c/d average and now his degree is too old to do anything with. He did take a course at the community college but didn't take his time on the test and didn't past. It'd cost too much for him to re-take it. So he has decided to stay with the Chimes and do what he does.
'Vocational rehabilitation is through the state department of mental health you've SSI or Disability and DDA is through the state department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
I hope that helps. Thank heaven I've every paper that is possible to have on Robert.

How many jobs did he apply to? Is he willing to take any job or just a computer oriented job? It helps to show that you can work in crappy job with good attendance and get a decent reference. I have multiple college degrees, I'm a military vet, no criminal record, have car . . . no job offers for even for $5/hr jobs and I looked for a job for a year and half at one point. Employers throw away job applications that indicate you are unemployed especially if it's over a 6 month period. Why? It's easier to screen out too many applications. Why would they hire someone that no one else would hire?
School is a good choice but job experience of some sort fills up the resume. Your son isn't alone.
"Two-thirds of young people with autism had neither a job nor educational plans during the first two years after high school. For over a third of young adults with autism, this continued into their early 20s, the report found."

Thanks, I didn't think degrees ever expired though, that's a shame he couldn't put it to use. At least he's happy! :)
Thank you!
