How do u know if your child needs ABA?
It’s usually the recommendation of the Dr who diagnosed. If it’s something you’re considering then you’d have an evaluation done just like with other services like speech and OT
Does anyone else out there have a child who was also born with a birth defect aside from being diagnosed with ASD? My daughter was born with a rare birth defect called Gastroschisis. She was born with all of her intestines, her bladder and ovaries on the outside of her body. Since there's all this research connecting ASD to the gut, I was curious if her defect could have a connection to her ASD. It's very uncommon for the two to have any correlation or it is not known. Any input would be… read more

My daughter and 2 of her classmates will soon "age-out" of our state's education program for special needs children. They have "behaviors" that will prevent them from obtaining and keeping a job. There are also no affordable facilities or programs for young adults in our area. As a group we would like to develop a program similar to the one they have at school but lack the funds. I've researched online but was only shown sites to obtain funding for chartering a school which is not what we… read more

We have been going back and forth. With our 25 year old son who is autistic, with aggressive behaviors. I read many stories online and in books, and it seems to me like most modern cases of autism are high-functioning, Aspberger's, or ADD/ADHD. Or, when it's more severe autism, it tends to be regressive after a period of normal development, accompanied by medical issues like ear infections, fevers, rashes, etc.
Is Classic (born-with-it) Autism still a relatively rare thing?
And if you're born with it, is it purely genetic or could it have been caused by some kind of prenatal assault like toxic… read more
I'd be careful with saying "They are verbal, they can speak for themselves, and their disabilities aren't huge issues for them." There's a whole different set of challenges that come with appearing… read more
There is no known 'cause' of autism spectrum disorders. Currently there are a cluster of behaviors, any of which by themselves would indicate an individual's quirkiness. But together, they constitute… read more
My son's new pediatrician suggested we get genetic testing on my son. His previous pediatrician also suggested it when he was diagnosed but we didn't want to do it because we didn't see the testing changing the outcome. Will doing the testing help with his autism or is it not worth it?
It was great for us also. It narrows down the medications that will probably work for your vhild. It takes a lot of the guess work out.
Help my ex wont give my son his meds on the weekends or vacation time he has him. so my son goes days without it and comes home more upset and violent with his sisters and me. I have try to talk to his father about making sure that he gets it but got told that he can give it to himself which the doctor says no because of where he is on the spectrum. I have tired talking to DFCS where I live and got told they cant do anything because I have the child most of the time. What else can I do because… read more
It is a form of negligence called medical negligence, I believe, for a parent to not give meds. I’m shocked that DCFS won’t do anything! CPS? My ex is the same but my child is only on meds when she is… read more
