I don't know about Florida but I do know it took a good 9 months before getting accepted for SSI Disability. You may want to contact your county to see if they have more of an emergency funding or assistance. Good Luck..I know how hard that is.

The Section 8 listing is closed but should open up again next year so keep a look out once a month checking out jaxhu.org I think it is, or something similar to that. There are a few places you can look into. I only recommend them for someone desperate. I use to live at Caroline Arms on Ft Caroline Rd. Also heard of another one in Mandarin but I can't remember the name of it. They go by income, you pay 30% of your income, but they do give allowances and even when times are so hard they give a little to certain families with no income. When I was working full time in childcare and paying child care costs (allowance at apartment) I was left with $550 or less every two weeks. My portion of rent was about $150 a month which left enough for basics in bills, food and needs. Of course that was back when my 16 yr old was 2 yrs old. Lol. But I still live close by and I believe it's run the same by the same people. If your able to get into the section 8 voucher you'd be able to get assistance (pay 30% of income) and could choose a nicer place to live, apt or house. Personally I think you should look into Ponta Vedra first. But if you do choose to apply at Caroline Arms it's close to everything, even walking distance to Dr's, CVS, Walgreens, Winn Dixie, Sonics, McD's, several parks and isn't too far a drive for downtown or the beaches etc all about a 25 min drive away. The neighborhood is okay though that apartment had it's issues when I lived there. I had heard it got a little better. I had issues with gas like smells from their pipes, roach issues often, loud neighbors into the we mornings, bullies at the parks etc. But again it's been some time since I lived there. The schools were A+ when I moved in there, within walking distance to the apartments also, but since have gone pretty bad. There is a charter school opening up just down the road though. Also if your not on it already try getting SSI or disability for the child. Those payments may allow you to live without assistance.
