ABA has been a blessing for us. They work on behaviors. For instance my son does not transition well from preferred activity to non preferred so they work on him with that. He is also a picky eater so they help me introduce new foods. He does OT also, they work more on the physical aspects like proper pencil holding, properly putting on shoes, dressing, fine motor etc.
ABA is more for behavior modification and skills in regards to being able to cope with their environment. OT is similar to PT but instead of working on general physical skills it concentrates more on working with fine motor skills and teaching skills related to self care.
Commands? Your child isnβt a dog.
ABA has also helped me with the correct wording and lingo to guide my son. I attended every session...I encourage you to do the same. I learned so much so when my therapist was not around I can model the same words and commands she gave him. He was awful with her at first...it took a loads of patience and persistence to get there. Good luck!! We have OT and it addresses more sensory issues and fine motor. Again...I always watch, listen and learn!! It helps me at home with him and builds on his progress.
