Yesterday I took my son(autistic, processing delay issues, & speech delays) to the pediatrician for his 11 year old check up. Doctor said he is starting puberty. I expressed my concerns with him because when he doesn't get his way/what he wants, he goes from 0-1000 in a split second. When this 1st started to happen he would hit walls, kick walls & slam doors. Now hes added hitting me (& brother who's 10), pulling hair, yelling, and walking outside. Doctor suggested putting him on a very low dose… read more
Guanfacine is a non-stimulant so it doesn't have the characteristics of being zombie like. Everyone is different when it comes to medication. My son takes Guanfacine and most of the time he is pretty… read more
We tried Vyvanse when my oldest was 7 years old. From what I recall, (he’s 17 now) it didn’t seem to have any noticeable effect on his hyperactivity or his focus. From research though I did discover… read more
My son is on an ADHD med, Vyvanse. Does anyone have experience using mood stabilizing medication with their children along with Vyvanse or other ADHD meds? How about the addition of blood pressure medication that has been seen to stabilize moodiness caused by ADHD meds?
This is a really good question, I myself take ability for mood and it hasn’t been helping, plus it wakes me up at night a lot. My son is fixing to be 9 and his always had problems with irritability… read more
My son is 8. He is diagnosed with autism and anxiety disorder. He’s not really taken many meds before. But his pediatrician put him on intuniv to calm him down because he’s contstanly into trouble at school to the point DCS is involved with his behavior now. But since he started this medication he’s not talking but saying a few words here and there, he won’t eat barely. I mean it’s 5pm here and he’s ate 1 COOKIE all day. I’ve not seen him dance like he always does. I’m so sad. He’s also sick… read more
My son was on guanfacine for ADHD and sleep difficulty. Dosage was gradually increased since the lowest dose did nothing to help calm him. As the dose increased, so did the OCD and aggression. This… read more

Are they addicting?
Thanks you

@A MyAutismTeam Member, the NAC seems to compliment his other medications. I've purchased NAC from Life Extensions several times.

My son is on it for aggressive behaviors.
I am seeing and hearing a ton of conflicting information.
How old must/should a child with ADHD be when they can receive medication? I am hearing they need to be 1st grade (7 years old) and up. Is that the general guideline? Any information will help!
@A MyAutismTeam Member Give it to him with a spoonful of apple sauce.
My daughter is about to turn 7 (she was diagnosed when she was 2 with moderate autism) and is becoming more aggressive when she doesn't get her way or is told "no" and she's recently started to cause self injury, I'm not really wanting to have to put her on medication for this but I have been reading about "Risperdal" what are your thoughts on this and has anyone used this to help their child with autism to help with their aggression, self injury or temper tantrums?
