I have never given my daughter any medication for her autism because for some reason I was against it and I also felt like she didn't need it at the time. Now, her temper tantrums are getting a lot worse, she seems to cry a lot more, and she is super hyper at night time, Tends to go to sleep around 12 every night. Do any of you parents give your children on the spectrum medication for any of those behaviors? Is this something I talk to both therapists and physician about?
A bunch of us could tell you what we give our children but to be honest different medications work for different children. Some have more side effects than others and some work for a while and then don't. You then have the issue of dosage and what is enough and what is to much.
What I can say is that we used meds for both of the children and they have changed throughout the years. We basically use them as supliments to therapies to kind of take the edge off. You just need to consult your doctor and then do a little trial and error.
We use melatonin for sleep. My little guy would stay up until 2 am unless i give it to him between 7-720 and my children who aren't on the spectrum take it as well. I was always very against medicating BUT if it's a case of needing to make sure your child doesn't hurt themselves or anyone else it's a road I would explore. There are people who use it off the bat instead of really trying to get to the bottom of the issues which it doesn't sound like your trying to do.
I will look into everything you guys mentioned. Thank you all for your input!
Yea, it just worries me because it has gotten a lot worse. Thanks.
