How Many Hours Therapy A Day For Your 3-year-old?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 3.5 year old has been in preschool for five hours a day with the occasional extra hour of speech or OT. I am now looking to increase his (Floortime) preschool to six hours a day, incorporating the speech and OT, plus 1.5 to 3 hours of ABA a day and a few hours of just ABA on Saturday. I am impressed by what he's been able to handle so far, but I don't want to burn him out and will reduce hours if I see any sign of that. Can other parents of preschoolers share their kiddos' daily/weekly… read more

Get all the hours you can now and maybe slack off later. We feel guilty because it was impossible to get ABA until our daughter was 6. Early intervention is stressed by all but ABA isn't available everywhere and the wait times are 6 months plus.

Thanks. Yes, I'm hoping that naturalistic, play-based ABA helps make the number of hours more manageable.

My daughter has four hours a day of ABA five days a week. She is not yet in preschool. She has two hours in the morning at the center and then a hour to an hour and a half break and then two more hours at home. Seems to be working well for her. It is a play based ABA and she is much better behaved during the week then on the weekend. She likes a set schedule. I am going to have speech sometime soon but I don't know how many hours or days a week that is.

Yes ABA just do not focus on one area it teaches the child how to deal with day to day duties such as potty training. Social skills, washing hands, etc.
I do that and OT/SP for that extra one on one

ABA is applied behavioral analysis - a way of teaching skills. I don't know what habilitation is in this context.
