Histamines And ASD
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

My son has had a congested nose for the longest time, with no cold, or breathing problems, but everytime he breathes in you can hear like there's so much stuff in his nose
I always wondered if that was significant, but all the docs I asked glossed over it, because it is not a PROBLEM in itself

Yes, histamines definitely impact symptoms for us too. There is a lot of research showing that kids with autism have higher mast cell activation, which is a fancy way of saying they get histamine reactions more easily.

I agree about the allergy testing, but not just the basics have the whole scale testing done. Tonsils and adenoids can be an issue so yiu want to have that looked at. Sometimes doctors don't want to remove them these days but they can cause issues.

My son has bad allergies, but none to food so we don't have to address that. He has been taking allergy shots once a week for a year now and has another year to go. His symptoms have been slowly diminishing so he is doing better.

Yes, get him tested for all allergies. We recently found out my son is allergic to ALL airborne allergens (30+), thankfully no food allergies. So he's on allergy meds, allergy shot and also will get his andenoids out too. He's been a mouth breather his whole life and it's affected the formation of the roof of his mouth. Finally found a good allergist but it took going through a few first.
