Friends
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is anyone else having a hard time making friends with other autism parents in their area? I attend a lot of autism meetings and programs and its so hard to connect with other parents. I try to reach out but it's hard for some reason. Are we really that closed off due to our circumstances that we can't create bonds and sometimes come across stand-offish?It would be nice to talk to local parents but after 7 yrs, I have no friends in my circle that truly understand my life.

I've tried in our area but the school autism expert gave me some additional local groups and names of highly networked individuals on the autism scene. Maybe there's someone like this in your area?

What Ideas Do You Have For Public Schools To Help Children With Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have experienced many different request from parents. Some want more some want less and some don't participate in the school program at all. Some kids have paraprofessionals, OT, PT, sped teacher, and parents are unhappy and want more specialists, and some parents want less services and more inclusion with no para. I have trained all special ed staff in autism and am a certified autism specialist myself. So, because I still see parent concerns I'm seeking ideas from all of you so I can be a… read more

What Do You Use For Discipline?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am a stepmother to a 4 year old diagnosed with autism. Unfortunately, I don't know much about her diagnosis and since we have put her in school she is functioning even better. At times we have destructive behavior especially when she is told no or when we are with a large group of people. What is the best way to discipline or redirect?
Thank you for your help.

Dr. Goldberg
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone worked with/heard of Dr. Goldberg? He is a doctor out in Cali who works with kids with autism and claims autism isnt real but in fact these children are being misdiagnosed and have a virus of the brain. My niece goes to him once a year, takes her blood and does a full CBC to see any elevations in her blood work, he put her on Celexa and Valtrex and my niece has gained so much weight!!! Apparently with her being skinny a yr ago she was apparently "sick" and now she is considered at a… read more

Need Advice From Parents With An Autistic Child That Have Went On To Have A Second Child.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone! Looking for some opinions and advice.

My 5 year old has recently been diagnosed with autism. I'm a sensitive person so this journey has been hard and heartbreaking at times. I love my baby so much and my heart wants another child but the fear of having another child with autism scares me so much. its Not the actual diagnosis that scares me because my boys best attributes (honesty, caring, humour, infectious personality) are all apart of his autism it's more that I am scared of… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has been diagnosed with autism for years. He has always gone to the same daycare and haven't been told about any issues with his behavior. Except last week we received a letter stating if your child does the following we have a 3 occurrence policy. 1-we will talk to you, 2-we will talk to you and ask u to take your child home to work on/fix their behavior and be excused from the center for a period of time, 3-we will ask you to leave the center. Well this week he had his issues (like he… read more
