My son is 2 and a half years old. We are currently undergoing blood work and bouncing from doctor to doctor with no answers... majority of the professionals we've seen believe he may be on the spectrum but no one will confirm as of right now. He is being tested for Fragile x Syndrome as well but we won't get the results back for a few weeks.
What are the main differences between Fragile X Syndrome and Austin/ASD?
What should I look for

My cousin has Fragile X and Autism. One Diagnosis doesn't necessarily determine if he'll have the other. Fragile X is a bit of a spectrum in of itself. Intellectual disability and Autism can accompany Fragile X; it's pretty common from my understanding. Fragile X is a chromosomal syndrome, which means that either you or your husband are a carrier. You may want to get yourselves tested if he does have it. But I've seen Fragile X children of all types in terms of functioning. It's hard to tell sometimes at his age if he has Autism or where he is exactly on the spectrum. The best advice I could give is to just be aware of the characteristics associated with ASD and be vigilant of his behaviors and characteristics as he ages a little more to see where exactly he falls. ASD is a toughy bc it's not like fragile x where you take a blood test and he either has it or not. ASD is determined by observing a number of characteristics and behaviors that align with the diagnosis.. and not all those characteristics can be observed at such a young age.
