What Kind Of Physical Distractions Could I Use With My Son When He's Getting Overstimulated?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

When I sense my high functioning 6 year old is getting agitated, I'd like to be able to provide him with a physical distraction (such as having him run up and down the stairs), but the problem is, we live in a small apartment, and I can't take him outside when he's agitated because we live on a very busy street and he tends to bolt when he gets frustrated. Any ideas?

We had that problem....we would have our son either "push the wall away" like a superhero...or carry z weighted bag from one place to another

Indoor trampoline. Some of these are very small .

Weighted vest and indoor trampoline help with expending energy. He'll start to learn to save his energy to use appropriately (not use it all at once to avoid tiring himself out), he'll slow down considerably throughout the day. This worked miracles with my little one.

I have to agree with others, the music helps my son tremendously. he too puts headphones on to listen to music on his IPad. Some music is from movie soundtracks he already knows and he loves it.
