Confused On The Education For My Autistic Son, Integrated Homeschool For Special Needs Or Normal School Education
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am living in Malaysia
The definition of homeschool here is a center setup with small number of students. (Homeschool here may have different definition to most other countries, where it means strictly doing studies in own home).

My son is 7 years old, high functioning autism. Currently placed in nursery (preschool daycare)
- Childhood Appraxia of speech (now can say one word or regular word)
- Still doesn't know how to talk or communicate with peers
- not a picky eater.
- doesn't have any… read more

Licking?!?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone else have a problem with their child licking any and everything? My daughter cannot seem to stop. It's as if she's compelled to do it. I'm at my wit's end. One of these days she's going to lick the wrong person/shopping trolley/toy and she's going to get seriously ill. Does anyone have any solutions for this issue?

I am pretty certain it's from Sensory Integration Disorder. There are a lot of websites where you can buy stuff for all sensory issues from soft clothing to weighted blankets. I also use Amazon.

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi,I'm new to this site.My son who will be 4 yrs old this month has been chewing his shirt, soaking it with saliva. I have noticed he's been doing it to his sleeves and now he's bitten two kids at Daycare! I don't know what is causing this behavior and frankly, I'm worried! He's Also been stimming more than usual. I was told by some parents to have him checked out for a yeast infection? Also, he loves to chew hair, especially mine and I often find it in his stool. I haven't been able to potty… read more

Anyone Have Littles Who Put Everything In Their Mouth?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm wondering if my child constantly needing oral stimulation can be related to her ASD? I didn't get a straight answer when I asked the doctor about it. Not sure if it's Pica since it's not necessarily dirt, paint chips, drywall, etc. it's more like paper, cardboard, plastic, hair, etc. She's constantly chewing on anything and everything and sometimes consumes these things.

Does Anyone Have A Child Obsessed With Chewing On Their Clothes? He Also Picks Up & Puts Almost Anything In His Mouth To Chew On.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

He has tried many different chewy tubes, but will toss them after a few minutes & chew his shirt instead. His focus is on mostly cloth items, pants, socks, blankets, towels, sheets etc. but, he has also chewed on the rubber part of the harness of his car seat, gotten some hard plastic in his mouth & chewed on it, but never swallowed. He is almost 4 & has been doing this since he was a baby. He is non-verbal, aside from a few words like Mama & Daddy. I think the excessive chewing it could be… read more
