My daughter is almost 3 and was reevaluated. Didnt even realize you could do an IQ test for a child that young with significant speech problems, however her score was 69. Just wondering if anyone has experience with the childs IQ improving as they get older. Or is it likely to stay the same?
I use to do cognitive assessment. I am in total agreement, don't get caught up in the numbers. If the child is enjoying the activity they pay more attention and score higher. If they are having a bad day, it could scew the scores in the other direction. I'm a firm believer that you can't keep guessing the right response, but you can always point st something to get someone to leave you alone. :-)
With such a young age, I definitely think there will be gravitation toward the mean which means kids that score higher when younger may score closer to average when older. Kids who scored lower than average when younger tend to score better when older. I cannot stress the importance of talking to your child pretty much constantly. My daughter was nonverbal at three and talks fine now at 10 1/2. I flooded her with language. Constantly labeling items and explaining things. I cannot stress language, puzzles, playing with your child every day. Play time with you is like therapy for them, but better because it is with mom.
Thank you. Its sometimes difficult to refrain from getting caught up in the numbers.
