I have an 8 yr old daughter with severe autism . I have noticed in our special needs dance class she is the only one who CAN'T hold still... granted they don't always stand in line perfectly either but they do have the capability and will do it for the most part. They are also severely impacted or have down syndrome etc. Meanwhile, my kid is constantly on her toes rocking flapping, cocking her head to the side, making sounds. You'd think she's be exhausted or finally settle down.. but it's… read more

I think it's more ADHD (attention deficit and hyper activity disorder) my son has ADD without the hyperactive part.. and he will sit still .. infact it's hard to get his attention to make him move , if it is really Effecting her you could ask your doctor for more natural treatments... but I think they use antidepressants to treat them xx

This is very common for our children. It could be ADHD it is a common secondary condition to ASD. The only thing you can do is try to redirect but it doesn't always work. Other than that meds help. You don't have to use really strong ones for this kind of thing. People may have ideas on natural remedies but I am not aware of them. My daughter is severe and nonverbal at 11 so none of that works for her.

In regards to if it is worth it that you have to decide for yourself. If you think your daughter is getting something out of it and enjoying it I would just keep doing it for her sake. I know it is tough to see her do these things and then worry about what others think but I decided long ago that I don't care what everyone else thinks. I have 2 ASD children 11,and 12 so I have dealt with a lot for a long time, so if they enjoy themselves I live with it.
