How To Find Highly Skilled 5-6 Year Old NT Boy ( Neuro Typical ) As Playdate?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Please suggest ways to expose my 3.5 year old son to other highly skilled 5-6 year old normal kids (boys) for increasing his play skills and language.
I'm SAH Mom. We need to focus on his social skill development. So looking for ways to get appropriate playdates.

Neighborhood girls 5-6 years old are not option because of their preference to different kids of plays / toys. We are in San Diego.

Look into a ASD social skills group for your son. We have CARD (Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) in our area, I don't know what is out in SD. CARD has facilitators who work with the kids while they are out doing activities. I find my son (he's a teen now) prefers to be with autistic peers over NT peers b/c there is no judgement and they actually seem to "get" each other better. They tend to have better social interaction with each other b/c they are on the same level.

If your son is in PreK,you can talk to the teacher(s) and see if they can set up some type of buddy system with another child who may have similar interests. Since our kids seem to have their particular interests it makes it a good starting point for them to interact with other children.

5 days of school is he in regular class? My son is so fortunate to be in a regular class and he is considered to be verbal and nonverbal at the same time the program has been so helpful with social skills I'm not sure of a play date as you know they don't get accepted as much. If it happen to have information please share with me. Thank you.

He's already in school 5 days / week, every day for 5 hours. That's not helping him. Parks, swimming, gyms, libraries have not helped so far.
