Hi I am planning to move into the Baltimore, MD area (closer to Columbia, Ellicott City) this coming summer. I am looking to see if any one knows of where a good place in this area would be to live in regards to which county/school district have really good special education programs. My son will be 8 years old going into second grade. Any help/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
Even if you are on the waiting list for Kennedy, you can contact the resource finder (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators).
My son is in 5th grade and has ADHD and high functioning Asperger's. We are searching for a good school to accommodate him in 6th grade and can't seem to find any. There are elementary schools and high schools but I'm having a hard time finding a middle school. Please help if you have recommendations. He needs an environment that will cater to his social needs as well as his academic needs. We will travel anywhere in the metro area. He is becoming disenfranchised with school as more kids become… read more
My sister used to live in Eagan but I'm not from the area. I have to say, I'm impressed with your public school information. A lot of school systems don't hardly even mention spec ed on their info… read more
Does anyone have any experience with montessori schools with an ASD child? Pros/cons? The diagnosing therapist said he didn't recommend it due to the lack of structure but I've been told by others it may be a good option. My son is 4 and we are looking ahead to the next school year.
We had bad luck with a Montessori, primarily because they did not have any knowledge about autism and did not want to learn. As a private school they did not have a mandate to accommodate… read more
My 7-year-old autistic son is high-functioning and goes to grade 1 in a regular school and regular class. He has some challenges with paying attention, sitting, and following some rules but he is doing well academically. His teacher has told us we should consider sending him to special classes in other schools. We feel that the teacher's advice is mostly for her comfort rather than the benefit of our child. Any advice on what should be our strategy toward this problem?
My son attends regular school, but he has a IEP (Individualized Education Plan) & other support/resources available for him. I think if the school can't accommodate your son's needs then consider… read more

Relocating to CT from MA. Looking at the Bridgeport area or points north as far as Newtown. Any recommendations for towns with strong special education programs in their public schools? My son currently receives: autism specific classroom, ABA, speech, OT, and PT.
Looking to enroll my son in Public kindergarten but have no clue which school has an ASD program/classroom. Also any pointers would be awesome from someone local. Thanks!
This may be different in FL. I found a number to call my local school district child-find program. They guided me from there. Ideally diagnosis and then IEP.
I need recommendations for the Naples/Fort Myers Florida area. We are moving there this summer, and I want to find the right school for my 12 year old son. He's currently in a small class of fourteen 5th and 6th graders. Middle school will be a huge change for him. He is high functioning and also has ADHD. DeLasalle looks wonderful, but it's quite expensive. I'm looking into the scholarships, but it seems that we will need to be Florida residents for a year before qualifying. Any and all… read more
Please look into DeLaSalle Academy!! They are wonderful! Fort Myers. It's expensive but there are scholarships that cover most of it!!
My husband received an offer for a government job in TX ( we can live anywhere in the state, where we live will determine which location he will work in) Our biggest concern is finding an appropriate school district for our son to make sure all of his needs are meet. I did research online and I get conflicting information. Some websites say TX is horrible for children with Autism others state its decent. My son's current school district in NJ is awesome. He gets all of his therapies in school… read more
You are welcome.
Been fighting with school for the last couple of years just to get adequate support for my son. Even with the support I don’t think the quality is good. Thinking about moving to another state. Can any parent share positive experiences with public school? Thanks.
Does anyone know of any online schools for a child going to high school in North Carolina?
