Speech Delay And Aspbergers
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi

Can any of you lovely folk speak about your experience personally or of your Aspbergers children who indeed had speech delay, what limitations did you have ie no words by age X or X words by age X? Any help is appreciated.

My grandson didn't have speech delay thankfully, but of what I have read of other situations once the children do become verbal the possibilities are limitless. The book 'Population One' written by Tyler McNamer shows this. You may want to signup to Tyler's webinars. He and his father, Jody, may be able to offer advice on this.

Nora had very few words at 18 months and we got her in early intervention. At 2 she just quit saying words . Speech therapy at school and some additional but she does "babble" quite a bit. Sometimes when she is really upset the words are plain as day!! We are using the PECS system a little bit and other means that the therapists have suggested. Am going to look into ASL, sign langauge, too.
