My 3 year 8 month son recently started repeating words/phrases over and over again. For example, one phrase he repeats is "its closed" or "its off". His language has started to develop this year, but is still delayed. He uses tha words appropriately, but just says them over multiple times. Is this a sensory thing? has anyone had experience with this and does it ever stop? Should I just ignore when he says it or is it better to respond?
my 10 year old son does,it just who he is. He just started to really talk about 5 years ago. and he will repeat himself over and over again until he gets his point across and we repeat back to him what he said.
My son is about to be 9, an still to this day does it.
It seems sensory and it does amuse these kids. My daughter is 7 and she still repeats words and phrases she likes to say and hear. She does pick new words and phrases over time but it gets real annoying. She laughs afterward so she knows what she's doing. She does it in large empty rooms to get an echo effect. She will yell "Dumbo!", "James and the Giant Peach" or nonsense like "shaboda". Last night she was yelling it out the windows at 3 am. People who say just ignore it must live in a soundproof house. She's much more quiet at school so the teachers really haven't hear her let loose. I think she does as a kind of release and for fun. She's loud enough that we can her hear outside to our apartment three floors up.
