Applied Behavior Analysis
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 15 year old son with high function autism is using foul language when talking. More so when he gets upset. This behavior just started.. How normal is this and what would be the reasoning. I explain to him how inapropriate it is to do so. He agrees then when he gets upset it just blurts out. He doesn't curse and call names or cuss at them just says using the language from time to time.

Using foul language, especially when upset is just another way of stimming. I know when I'm getting close to meltdown, I cuss like a sailor.

Lol, sorry to laugh but my son does the same thing, luckily he just does it at home. I would mention to your son about the appropriateness of using foul language, and see what happens.
