To Stem Or Not To Stem That Is The Question
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Okay so how do u all feel about stemming(stimming) my 9 yo vocal stems and also repeatitve noise stemming whether it be his own recordings of his voice stems played over and over or he will find an app on the iPad and press play constantly, also sometimes he records little snippets of our family on high speed and replays. Besides (I'm going to be completely honest with you guys here) it being annoying (vocal and app noises ) he will run back and forth in the house laughing and biting down on his… read more

Stimming Increase
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has recently increased his Stimming to the point that he’s almost constantly talking. He’s always Stimmed but not on this scale. Has anyone else experienced a significant increase and have you been able to determine a root cause? Was it dietary, environmental, and/or anxiety?

I have not been able to determine a trend because it is almost a daily occurrence. He is usually happily singing or scripting lines from his favorite Disney shows. It’s not anything harmful but I feel he needs to… read more

4 Years Old Boy Humping Pillows And Gets Erection. Is This Normal?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have 4 years old under the spectrum. Since he was two years old he is humping pillows whenever the opportunity comes a home. He does not do such thing at daycare, but whenever he comes home from daycare, he eats and then start humping pillow on the bed. I saw he has erection. Is this normal?. Usually he does that for over 30 minutes. I do really need to know if anybody saw something like this in the past.

Increased Stemming
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 10 year old son seems to be getting more aggressive these days. not in the violent sense but much more emotional. his stemming (i think that's the spelling)has also increased too. What type of therapy or intervention would help me help him in both areas. Especially the emotional part. He has a speech delay, which i am sure is as frustrating to him as it is to me trying to understand what is going on.

He will be receiving ABA once school starts and I am trying to get home ABA also. THanks!

Bored VS. No Stimuli
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

So, I understand there is great debate over the two when it comes to children. However, I wanted to hear from my ASD family on here. When you or your children are bored, how do you or they act? I was raised in foster care so I've had my fair share of boredom. With a non-asd child I would see bored kids do absolutely nothing with a literal boredom on their face. However, with our son he will throw his toys, toss his toys up on the air, or roughly scoot them across floors or make them drop from… read more

Food Theif
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have any idea on how to stop an autistic child from stealing food? My daughter steals food (mostly sweets) it's not that I don't feed her or even allow her to have the items that she takes but she continues to take them without asking and hides to eat it. I've tried putting it where she shouldn't be able to get it but she finds a way. I dont by sweets often they are truly a treat but if I cant find away to stop the sneaking then we will become a treat free zone.
