For 3 Year Old Boy With ASP, Receiving ABA At A Regular Daycare Setting Versus At Home, Need Your Suggestions
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is now 3 years old and has a newly dignosis of ASP. Doctor ordered ABA 20 hours/week. He is attending a regluar day care from 9am to 4 pm. Mom is at home taking care his one year old brother. I wonder if any parent might be able to share the experience with kid who received ABA at the daycare setting versus at home setting. Pros and Cons? or suggestions from health care workers in the field? Many thanks

I prefer the at-home setting. It only works if you are able to stay home as well, or have a partner who stays home. The reason I prefer it at-home is because when he is in an environment with other ASD children, he tends to pick up some of their behavioral issues which is counterintuitive. It is all going to come down to personal preference, we did both at the beginning, and then once we found what we preferred we switched him to at-home only.

My 3 year old son gets his ABA at a clinic n I’ve seen so much progress with him it’s crazy! He is going on walks w us without running and understands “wait” and “stop” when he walks ahead of us. He’s understanding commands like “put your shoes on”. I agree with the person above in that it’s comes down to personal preference. Just pay attention to what works in your family dynamic. I’m a stay at home mom as well and I choose to be in order to get him to his therapies and for now it just makes sense for our family with my husband traveling a lot. However even though I’m home i prefer him going to a place to get his therapy vs doing it at home because he is more distracted at home from what i noticed when he was receiveing early intervention services in the past, and it helps him to transition to school a lot easier this way. This is what works for us. I hope it’s going well for you guys and wish you all the best!
