Can Anyone Describe Their Experience Sending Their Teen Away To A Transition Program Out Of State?

We are considering sending my stepson out of state to a recommended transition program with the hope he will learn independent living skills and social skills so that he may one day attend college and/or be employed and live independently. However, he has been quite sheltered living at home. We are nervous about making the transition to his living out of state though professionals we have engaged seem to think he could benefit. I wouldn't advise you to do something like that. Why would you need to send him somewhere out of state? He would learn better from you. You would also have more patience and know how to work with him better.
If you don't want to work with him, then have a local facility work with him.
