My son has been holding his urine for hours at a time. He only has about 3 wet diapers per day. His pediatrician didn’t seem worried when I asked her last week. But yesterday at school his teacher noticed he was holding himself and crying. He was dry from Tuesday night (around 630) till Wednesday around 2 pm. Mine was resisting going at home but was going ok at school. I found out they have everyone go at the same times everyday, so he was used to the routine. We are now trying to help him understand why it’s important to listen to his body signals and go when he feels it, and trying to explain to him how the body works. Awhile back he was afraid of the toilet and peeing, until we did lots of visual stories showing how you don’t need the pee- it is the body’s trash and has to get taken out of your body just like you take out the trash. That was a relief to him. We are not there yet but making progress. Praising every time he does it right.
