My 5 Year Old HF ASD Boy, Has Had Very High Anxiety That Wakes Him At Night And Keeps Him Very Rigid During The Day.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We recently started low dose prozac and his daily rigidness and transitions are a bit easier but he is still waking in meltdowns due to anxiety from the previous day. Anyone use prozac and it helped with anxiety overnight?

Have you tried compression shirts for during the day? This was recommended by our OT. It was a miracle for my son, age 2 - 7. Buy the exact size your child wears for the correct compression. Also weighted vest. My son also loved a weight blanket to sleep with with. All these things take a while to get use to, so introduce them slowly. After ABA therapy, my child no longer wanted compression shirts or weighted vest or blankets. The website "Fun and Function" has a nice selection. We get our compression shirts from Target, Academy Sports Megallan brand, and occasionally name brand. They come in all different colors. Short and long sleeve. Very soft!

We have used prozac with our 6 year old who has, anxiety and depression, and is also HFA for a long time now and it has been a miracle for us. At night we also use melatonin to help with sleep because she has severe sleep issues without it. She sleeps a full 11-12 hours with the melatonin and has very few nightmares, maybe once every 6 months or so, she is otherwise very happy and 1000 times better at managing emotions without violence. I hope this helps.
