Drinking Water
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello MAT!

So I just wanted to ask a simple question, I don't know if anybody else experiences this but my niece hates drinking water. We've tried giving it to her several time and all she ask for is juice.. If it doesn't have a color to it, she won't drink it
We want her to stay hydrated when shes out with with my sisters and I in this summer heat. Tried giving her Gatorade, hardly drinks it.. Tried giving her water with lemon juice- she thinks its gross... tried giving her Propel… read more

My son use to be the exact same way. During the day he wouldn’t drink water but before bed he’d be so thirsty. We had a “special (just an orange fox bottle that was given to us by our doctor)” water bottle that he drank out of every night. Then we started bringing it upstairs during the day and he started drinking from it during the day. Another thing...if you guys drink a lot of water, hopefully she’ll do the same.

My daughter did the same she hates drinking water. And what we did is tried to give her water in regular intervals and les quantities. Aba therapist also trained the same way. After the therapy ha started we can see lil improvement but still repeats the same sometimes.we actually tried to reward her with sugarless candies.it also worked for sometimes and now we faded off that.

My son loves “spicy water” which is really just carbonated water with no sugars. I figured out over time that he likes it because it provides sensory input. He is also very sensitive to off putting tastes imperceptible to us. It is always a challenge keeping up with his sensitivities.
