We live in a small town that has a great program for children with autism, but I had a brain injury two years ago that makes it difficult for me to regulate my body temperature and Texas is hot. Rather than flirting with heat stroke everytime I go outside for eight months out of the year, we're shopping for a school district we can afford to live in that has a solid autism program for children with moderate-to-low functioning autism. We're coming from one, there has to be another one somewhere.

We recently moved from San Angelo, TX and the heat really bothered me as well as people telling me how wonderful the weather is there. I'd go for Indiana, Ohio, upstate New York, or Maine. I base it on the autism insurance law mandates by state not specific school districts. Also consider Wisconsin or Michigan.
Check out https://www.bestplaces.net/. Has lots of info on cities. Double check housing prices on Zillow.com or trulia.com because Sperling's housing numbers seem out of date.
Also look at https://www.autismspeaks.org/family-services/re... to assess what services are available by zip code.
I read that one before, and then researched the "best" places. The real estate market in most of them is sky high and not an option for us. Thanks though
Thanks
I found this article, check it out. https://www.autismspeaks.org/about-us/press-rel...
Just to clarify though, my son is severe. Low verbal, self injury, elopement. I can't speak to the programs for higher functioning kids.
