Hello, we've heard great things about the school districts in Irvine. My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with moderate ASD. She's been in a special day class in San Leandro, CA and has been in every type of service since she was initially diagnosed (private OT, ABA, Speech and music therapy). The school has offered the basics, and not even OT! After sending letters she will finally have an assessment. She is transitioning to Kinder. At this point we are willing to move wherever services are… read more
I cannot help you with good schools in Irvine. But I can tell you. California has a lot of fantastic laws that protect parents, especially when it comes to getting records And most importantly all the… read more

Help my ex wont give my son his meds on the weekends or vacation time he has him. so my son goes days without it and comes home more upset and violent with his sisters and me. I have try to talk to his father about making sure that he gets it but got told that he can give it to himself which the doctor says no because of where he is on the spectrum. I have tired talking to DFCS where I live and got told they cant do anything because I have the child most of the time. What else can I do because… read more
It is a form of negligence called medical negligence, I believe, for a parent to not give meds. I’m shocked that DCFS won’t do anything! CPS? My ex is the same but my child is only on meds when she is… read more

The definition of homeschool here is a center setup with small number of students. (Homeschool here may have different definition to most other countries, where it means strictly doing studies in own home).
My son is 7 years old, high functioning autism. Currently placed in nursery (preschool daycare)

Therefore I ended with Option B, seeing that it has a good ratio mixture of special and normal kids, and teachers are prepared to accept special kids

My son started kindergarten last week and he has a paraprofessional. It's been a rough start, my son is pulling things of shelves, makes noises and even kicked some people in the classroom. He's not violent with us, so this has to be related to being overwhelmed
Unfortunately his para is not trained to deal with autistic behaviors and the teacher doesn't seem to want to deal with the situation (I get it, she has many other kids to teach). Have any of your kids struggled in kindergarten? Did it… read more

I’ve been going over school work with Vanessa. She’s been watching educational videos. We play. We went to the pool. We’re working on cleaning her room. Right now we’re focusing on her morning routine to get ready for school.
How do you balance the day? How do you know what to do and what to teach and how to teach it? Do you keep your child busy most of the day?
Looking at books, going outside or the park to play, educational shows about animals. As far as teaching goes,I try to get him interested in puzzles and educational toys, oh and potty training lol
My 7 year old son recently began ABA therapy for a minimum of 10 hours a week (crazy its minimum!!?) and so far he's doing okay but I worry it's going to be too much for him physically and mentally. That's a LONG day for a child with special needs. Does anyone else have experience with this and how did your child do? I tried to get a reduced school day so he could've left early & gone to therapy but his school district wouldn't allow for this! Also tried to get weekends for him but there weren't… read more
