I was curious as to the quality and availablity of ASD services in Cedar Rapids, Iowa? We currently live in California, which is a more progressive state for anything Autism related but we are thinking of relocating to iowa to be closer to family. My main concern is the availability of ABA therapy and schools in the area thay have a good autism program. Any insight would help. Thanks
I live in Indiana. Unfortunately I can't speak directly for Iowa. But I can tell you there seems to several autism centers in the Midwest. I hear that Illinois has good resources. My experience so far with schools in this area is they try to provide services like teacher aides to assist your child with one on one assistance. But I have found very few teachers in the system that really even understand my son's learning needs. In fact, he spends most of the time in the resource room alone and very little in the general ed room. My advise is if you can spend some time in the area you want to move and research the schools you are thinking of putting your child in.
