I've noticed the past two weeks that my son will suddenly get a wave of what appears to be nausea (he's mostly nonverbal so lots of guesswork here) - in that he starts swallowing several times and appears anxious and wants to be consoled. It goes away in 30-60 seconds, and he does not throw up.

I would show him social stories on noise/sounds, and that they're ok. A story on feelings, when a person is having a hard time expressing themselves. Let him know that you know that something is bothering him.
My son was non-verbal too, I would show him stories even though he wasn't speaking to me. Our children develop receptive language first, so it's ok.

Acid reflux can also cause nausea, definitely something to look into.
@A MyAutismTeam Member my daughter used to have to take a medication for reflux, we got her the liquid and mixed it into juice, have you tried that? I'm glad you found an answer.
I just saw another nausea episode this morning, and now I am thinking that this could very well be acid reflux. It runs in the family, and I'm surprised that wasn't my first thought! He was so uneasy when he was nauseas, poor guy, but when I gave him something to eat, he turned a new leaf and is his happy self again. Going to ask the doctor about evaluating this.
Hi kaydee7394, I was kinda crazy, I started using them at the age of 2.5 yrs. Lol, I never waited to ask because specialists pretty much told me that he would never speak, and classified him basically as unable to learn.
My mentality was screw you all, and I did what I wanted. Never worry, you could never harm him.
