I am the mom of an 8 yr old boy with PPD-NOS and ADHD. We homeschool and are looking for homeschooling groups that focus on special needs children and have social gatherings or group activities. Any groups in North Texas who do this? We live in Anna, TX (north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex)
Try 4-H, a lot of homeschoolers belong. Even if you don't want to do the program, you can probably find another group that is perfect for you! Also, there are groups on Yahoo that you can probably… read more
Any apps or suggestions to improve fine motor movements
Dexteria Jr.-Fine Motor Skills Development App. Our OT adviced us it's really helpful.
Thank you!
My son is 16 and was just diagnosed with Aspergers. He has been dating a girl for 2 years, but she lives over a hour away. Since they hardly see each other she doesn't realize the extent of his symptoms. My husband and I are extremely nervous on how to tell her and her parents the news. As anyone had experience in this? It will crush him if she breaks up with him because of this.
I would leave that decision to your son. 16 is a little too old for mom to disclose information like that without his consent, from a 16 year old's point of view anyway. I would be afraid you might… read more
My 7 year old (moderate to severe ASD) was completely toilet trained until about 6 months ago when he reverted back to 'pooping' in his underwear. He will not go in public but only at home (thank goodness). We are finding ourselves cleaning /showering him numerous times each day and are beginning to get frustrated with this ongoing issue. He will sometimes go on demand (we know he has to go as soon as he gets home from school), but he normally fights this by yelling or jumping up and down on the… read more
Had that issue too, except no pullups, cause he was too old for pull ups. We had to work with him on certain underwear he liked by letting him pick them out, ensuring he wasn't constipated after the… read more
my son has a moderate level of sensory sensitivity, has had toileting issues for some time, but now he is mostly 'trained' however the greatest challenge is getting him to wear underwear. any suggestions? also, he has a little brother who still needs pullups, so they are in the house for another year or so.
Have you taken him to let him pick any out a pattern and a material he likes? maybe he might like loose boxers instead of tight underwear. I know my son prefers loose underwear that are thin in… read more
My daughter has been diagnosed with autism but has a quality that has never been addressed. She has one eye that tends to wander at various times. Is this common with autistic kids or is it something else? She seems to be able to bring it back and focus if you get her attention but it is there. Just wondering....
Yes, my son Roman experienced this and we took him to an eye doctor that focuses on Behavioral Vision Therapy. They were able to give him a very in depth vision exam that determined that his eyes were… read more
My son's new specialist wants to refer him to an OT because a visual spatial processing deficient came back on one of his assessments. My thought is vision therapy… While I do believe GOOD OTs are worth their weight in gold I am VERY skeptical of OTs especially because now a days it seems they are mostly about "providing sensory experiences", my son is currently doing fine with his sensory issues and his fine motor gets what needs to be done done. He gets OT 2x weekly in school and also gets… read more
