My son is 4.5, and was recently diagnosed with a tongue tie by a specialist. It requires weekly myofacial therapy and daily tongue, cheek exercises pre and post operation- for months. Has anyone had any experience with this and what results did they see after?
My niece had the surgery and they said she might possibly need therapies and she was actually fine after it healed. I’m not sure how severe his is but they always seem to give worst case situation with stuff like this. My niece had it pretty bad, she had trouble drinking her bottle and my sister had to find all kinds of ways to get her daughter to drink her formula. By age one she asked the doctor to do something about it since she was not outgrowing it and nothing was changing. The procedure was quick and she healed up pretty quick too. He is older though so maybe he might need a little help to build up muscles. I don’t know about that part. Hoping for a speedy recovery for your little guy!
@A MyAutismTeam Member he has never eaten a solid piece of meat, vegetable or fruit except when he was very young and I think he choked a couple of times so maybe became averse to that. OT feeding past two years has produced zero results or maybe he’s gotten worse. I think we have suspected mechanical issues for awhile but couldn’t find the right person to diagnose it. I told the speech therapist as FYI but not interested in her opinion since it’s more OT feeding and getting him to use his nose, maybe more oxygen to the brain. Those are medical issues.
