Have Any Of You Taken Your Autistic Son Or Daughter To An Orthodontist??
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

This question is more for parents with a Son or Daughter with Autism on the Severe side ...maybe they're even nonverbal. Have you ever taken them to an Orthodontist, and how did that go??? My daughter goes to a Pediatric dentist. We have been very satisfied w/ them. For the last 2 yrs., they have been telling me that my daughter needs braces, and should go to an Orthodontist for an evaluation. I thought yeah, right. My son has braces. I thought about the rubber bands, and all the things that… read more

I Am Absolutely Terrified Of Taking My Child To The Dentist?!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 4 year old is moderately autistic, and non-verbal. I know I should be starting to take him to the dentist on a regular basis now... but the thought of bringing him in there, and trying to get him to let the dentist do xrays or a cleaning kind of scares me. I live in a very small town, there is one dentist here, and I'm not sure if there are any pediatric dentists in the region that deal with autistic kids. Just wondering what other parents that might be in the same boat do when it comes to… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 14 year old needs braces but she hates going to the dentist. She has meltdowns and outbursts. I am literally in tears and have anxiety whenever I am brave enough to take her. I would love for her to start feeling comfortable getting her teeth cleaned twice annually like I do. How do I get her ready for braces without them driving her crazy and feel comfortable going to the dentist?

Anyone Have Experience With Braces (teeth)?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 11 yr. old Aspie is getting braces next week. He does not do well with pain at all, even small things, like bumping into a piece of furniture, are huge things for him. You'd think he had broken a bone or something! Yesterday, he had spacers put in to make room for the appliance they had to put in with the braces. The dr. told us he would probably be a little bit sore today and to just give him some Motrin or Tylenol. Well, he was VERY sore by dinnertime and couldn't even eat! The Motrin… read more

ISO A Good Dentist For My 7 Yr Old Daughter With Autism
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

In search of a dentist that either specializes in kids with special needs or at least knows how to handle a child with special needs. Last dentist we been to was horrible. I warned them while scheduling her an appointment that my daughter was autistic and she will have a tantrum and will be very loud
They asked me if I can calm her down before entering the room and I told her no because I was told that your dentist/ dental assistance were able to handle this behavior. So they were wrong about… read more
