Has anyone ever kept their child back in pre-school for one more year? I am debating it as academically he is ready but socially not and last year he missed a whole year of pre school because of the whole divorce scenarion:(???
He has his IEP meeting the 1st of May and they may say he is ready for kindergarden but what are my rights as a parent to keep him another year? He turns 5 in June....
Thank you all for your responses!
I have suspected for awhile that my son may have dyslexia. He is almost five and will enter kindergarten next year. I asked the school district to test him and they are coming up with all sorts of excuses why heās too young to test, including the excuse that he is ājust autisticā as if he can have only one diagnosis. Like autism, it seems like the earlier you can get supports for dyslexia, the better. They donāt want to diagnose until 2nd or 3rd grade but I feel that makes no sense as kids startā¦ read more

Thanks, I was just getting ready to sit down and print out a page about it and highlight it.
My 5 year old is suppose to be starting school this year and soon. He's not ready for Kindergarten and it's evident (never still, never quiet). I don't know if I can send him to Pre K due to his age or not. Where I live there are no resources for ASD and I can't find anything on the website for my school district to help. Does anyone know if a 5 year old can go to Pre K? I'm in Whitfield County, Ga if that helps.
I got little books from my Wal-mart store for my boys for grades pre-k and kindergarten. We worked on them together and also told them fun story's from when I was in those grades. Before schoolā¦ read more
I pulled my child out early all of last year at pre-k and doing it again this year at kindergarten to attend ABA and other therapies. Itās in her IEP and we have had no issues from school. Thereās a kid in another school in the same school district whos mom was apparently told by the school principal that they cannot pull him out early under any circumstances. They are yet to have an ARD meeting. He has an expired IEP from another town with his diagnosis. Does the principal have authority toā¦ read more

Grandson is 4recently diagnosed with autis. He will be starting kindergarten in Sept. He is supposed to be attending a charter school not sure if that's best. The other option is public school
If that Charter school can provide things like speech/ occupational therapy/ Physical therapy theses are the services that children on the Autism Spectrum need. Best of luckš

Hi, we are moving to Chicago this summer and searching for a neighborhood with a good elementary school around. My son has moderate autism and has been thriving since he started ABA and special education at 3. Based on my research so far, it seems that we should not expect the same level of educational services from Chicago Public Schools as what we have now here in Boston. But I would love to know if any of you have had some positive experience with CPS concerning your child's specialā¦ read more
Hi Cate2, we no longer live in the area, but I heard some nice things about public schools in suburban cities north of Chicago. Good luck!
I am also reading about the law - they did not know which school Kaleb will be going to - I also went on line to get the schools report card for teaching disable children.
