Hi so I had (past tense for other reasons) a friend whom was very close for a few months with 2 girls and her oldest daughter 4yrs was diagnosed with asd. Well I was having alot of behavioral trouble with my son and I was getting worried about how he was acting. Hitting his head when he was mad (with his fists or on the wall), his speech was falling way behind(compared to ALOT of other kids) and his overall developmental milestones such as waving and pointing. I personally think it depends on the situation, i thibk that some parents of asd kiddos want to look for those signs in other bc then i feel like they feel they arent so alone, while other parents are very sensitized to asd going ons bc of our everyday lives that we just pick up on those things ..does this make sense?

My son was exactly 2 years old when he was diagnosed with mild ASD. He started ABA, speech, and OT immediately and had a total of 11-13 hrs a week of service. He is now 4 and is in an integrated preschool program with regular Ed students and special needs students in the morning and a self contained class special Ed class in the afternoon in a “skill acquisition” class. He is doing great but it has been a very hard and long road already. Looking back, I wish I had brought him in at 19 months old bc the red flags were there too. You are so ahead of the game. Give him as many services as possible now. The earlier the better. Other moms can pick up the signs quicker just bc they’ve lived it. All you can do is pay attention and give your doctors as much info as possible. Whatever the result, you will all be ok. There is so much help out there. Good luck.
