Forgetting And Lying
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 10 year old son (ASD and ADHD) has started lying about stuff and/or forgetting to do little things (changing his clothes, brushing his teeth, picking up his toys, flushing the toilet, etc).
Once we figure out he lied to us or hasn’t done the daily task and we ask him about it he responds with “I thought I did that already” or “oh, I forgot”...is he really forgetting or is he just being lazy?

Any parents out there that can relate? Im open to suggestions on how to handle it.

My son has these issues as well, except sometimes its scary the things he forgets , or how fast and often he forgets....some things seem like lies, but we realize he forgets them in seconds in in a conversation he will forget simple things.
Maybe have him reevaluated , to see if he has other issues ...just a suggestion.

My son showed similar tendencies and as it turns out he has a co diagnosis of Dyspraxia which is a processing disorder. My son is gifted, but has trouble following too many verbal instructions all at once. I found asking and clarifying multiple times is needed with my son. Hope this helps.

The last few days have been better. Some days we have no issues, other days are a different story. But we are trying the things you all suggested and I’m hoping it’s helping. Thank you everyone! Glad to know I’m not alone ❤️

Thank you for the suggestions. It’s hard when people don’t understand and they think I’m making excuses for him. I feel myself getting defensive. Some say it’s just the age, but I feel like it’s the adhd and asd
