Hello! My son is 16, ASD, soon to be 17 is scheduled for a heel cord lengthening surgery due to toe walking 100% of his life. Has anyone had a teen that have had this surgery? I would like to know exactly what to expect and if it was beneficial. Thanks in advance
My granddaughter toe walks and the doctors at Larabida were not helpful in responding to the issue. My granddaughter is 19 and we did a lot of things including night time cast, stretching protocols and physical therapy and she still does this. There were test for cerebral Palsy, MS and other things with negative results. A specialist said that after all those procedures, their conclusion was this was a learned behavior and will be hard to break the teen of doing without surgery. They mentioned this one you are talking about, but there did not appear to be a lot of research on the subject, so make sure you check and double check.
Prayers and Hugs
My brother is not autistic but he has had to have that surgery every 2 years since he was 17 because his toes curl in because of birth defect surgeries as a baby. It seems to leave him sore for a couple weeks it does help but only for so long and if he is still doingnit and still gtowing he may have to have more then one surgery. Thatbis just second hand info tho
