My son Levi is 9, almost 10. He has Lowe Syndrome and has many autistic tendencies. Right now we are really needing to find a speech app that would best suite Levi, who is non verbal. He has low muscle tone that makes sign language difficult but he is good with technological devices. He had a nova chat for 4 and a half years which his school personnel and family found very hard to program and use so he didn't get very far with it, although in the last year he could use it for basic speech which… read more
For anyone searching, I'm new to aac devices / aac ipad apps...
I recently got aacorn app for iPad, and it's decent (I think it's new, so prolly wasn't around when the original poster had their… read more
Right now my daughter has just started speech therapy and is seeing a behavioral analyst (for sleeping). I feel like I should be doing more. Are there any programs anyone can recommend to help my almost 3 year old? Someone suggested Geminii...? I’ve been getting a lot of advise from people who don’t have autistic children, so I’d really value some advise from parents that have been there or are currently there.
The miller method sounds similar to the Hanen program my husband has started. I’m going to check out it out. Thank you both for your input :)
I feel so helpless somedays and feel I should be doing… read more
My son attends a cyber charter and I was looking into possibly sending him to another school, but I need a referral from our home school district's department of special education. Because the cyber school is considered part of the public school system; would I contact the local board of education?

I had an IEP meeting the other day. I had received a form that was labeled as a IEP Summary. I have received in the past a IEP document that would list my son's accomplishments, academic and relative service goals that was set.
The summary included the relative services, and academic goals. The Academic goals were set as a yearly goal instead of a quarterly. The relative services were not invited to this meeting; even though I have asked prior to the meeting if they were aware of it.
@ crimsonwife it was suppose to be in reference to his ESY. It was like everything was rolled into one, because it covered his goals during the whole school year. This meeting last for thirty minutes.
Has anyone used it? They are really pushing to Promote this program on 'fb'.
I played it at breakfast while he was eating. Captive audience :). And he didn’t always like it, but I push him to watch it. He gets really into it, but if he really protests, I will shut it down.
Thank you!
My son is 16 and was just diagnosed with Aspergers. He has been dating a girl for 2 years, but she lives over a hour away. Since they hardly see each other she doesn't realize the extent of his symptoms. My husband and I are extremely nervous on how to tell her and her parents the news. As anyone had experience in this? It will crush him if she breaks up with him because of this.
I would leave that decision to your son. 16 is a little too old for mom to disclose information like that without his consent, from a 16 year old's point of view anyway. I would be afraid you might… read more
Has anybody here had their kids watch the Gemiini videos? In debating on ordering them but they are $100 a month. Any feedback would be great.
My daughter is 2 and she's non-verbal. She's in aba and speech therapy but if I could do that home and it works I would be very happy.
And yes, it's crazy expensive.
My 7 year old (moderate to severe ASD) was completely toilet trained until about 6 months ago when he reverted back to 'pooping' in his underwear. He will not go in public but only at home (thank goodness). We are finding ourselves cleaning /showering him numerous times each day and are beginning to get frustrated with this ongoing issue. He will sometimes go on demand (we know he has to go as soon as he gets home from school), but he normally fights this by yelling or jumping up and down on the… read more
Had that issue too, except no pullups, cause he was too old for pull ups. We had to work with him on certain underwear he liked by letting him pick them out, ensuring he wasn't constipated after the… read more
I was a shy kid growing up, but now I'm starting to pay attention to my speech and noticing idiosyncratic speech, and it really bothers me.
