Anyone Out There Have Children On The Spectrum In College?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I just wanted to chat with anyone, wondered how their children are doing in college, what support services their children are getting. I hope to hear from someone. Thanks

How Much Testing Did You Have To Go Through For The Medical Diagnosis Of Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son was diagnosed by the school 2 years ago with Autism Spectrum Disorder. They decided that he needed physical therapy. We had to go to our general practitioner to get a physical therapy script. He suggested seeing a developmental Doctor for the medical diagnosis

We've been doing this for about 2 months. We've seen our developmental Doctor twice and seen a ton of specialists. My son has extreme anxiety and has thrown up or had a stomach issue before each appointment.

DAN Doctor
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

When my son was young, we found a DAN Doctor in Richmond, VA who we visited several times for early interventions. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with DAN Doctors? Do they still exist and serve our community?

Immunization
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm a first time mother. I need a little guidance. My son last visit to the doctor was Jan 2103 and I was told that all of his shots was up to date until age 4. Lately, parents have been taking their kids to the doctors for checkups before school starts. Am I missing something. Do I suppose to take my 3yr old son if, so for what?

Our ped office has us go back for yearly well checks even though my son is up to date on vaccines also. They do give us paperwork for daycare to show that he is up to date

5yr Old Boy With ASD. We Make Just Too Much To For Medicaid Programs, But Too Poor To Pay For The Amount Of Therapy He Needs. Options?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

His school provides bare minimum with therapy. Our kids (only) were once on Medicaid and it seemed to provide pretty decent therapy throughout the week, however, with a pay bump at my job, and my wife now going back to work, we are just over the threshold for Medicaid. Private therapy is something that I know is worth it but again cannot simply afford it. Meanwhile our son has gone on 25min tangents in his classroom to the point where the teachers are growing intolerant. What are options for us… read more

Braces For My 12 Year Old
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Wondering is anyone has had any experience with braces for their child? We have the referral and it is something I want to do now, rather than wait. But I'm curious if it is even something I should consider.

A MyAutismTeam Member

Oh, and definitely tell them he has Aspergers before you go. See how they respond. This will give them the chance to come up with or learn ways how to make him comfortable. That's helped a lot for… read more

Dentist Visits And Braces
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 14 year old needs braces but she hates going to the dentist. She has meltdowns and outbursts. I am literally in tears and have anxiety whenever I am brave enough to take her. I would love for her to start feeling comfortable getting her teeth cleaned twice annually like I do. How do I get her ready for braces without them driving her crazy and feel comfortable going to the dentist?

How Much Would You Push School To Recognize Autism In A High Functioning Child
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is 7 years old and in the first grade. So far, she does not have an IEP and is doing very well. I had her tested through the school system and they did not diagnosis her with autism or offer any type of intervention. I took her to our local hospital (Vanderbilt, very well known for autism research) and they did diagnosis her HFA (She would be aspergers if they still used that dx). The psychologist there says she does need an IEP.

My question is how much would you push the… read more
