What do you encourage for independent play. Be have drawing and puzzles down but can't seem to find anything else she'll take interest in. She's almost 3 and electronics are not an option at this time.
Musicial instruments is a thought. I'd love for her to learn to play something. :)
Has a Montesori school been a good fit for your child with high functioning autism? Any feedback would be helpful. My daughter will be entering middle school and has dealt with bullying and social awkwardness.
Thank you for the feedback. Glad to hear you have had a good experience. Hoping for the same for my daughter. She will be starting the new school in September. Since it is a private Montesori school… read more
Does anyone have any experience with montessori schools with an ASD child? Pros/cons? The diagnosing therapist said he didn't recommend it due to the lack of structure but I've been told by others it may be a good option. My son is 4 and we are looking ahead to the next school year.
We had bad luck with a Montessori, primarily because they did not have any knowledge about autism and did not want to learn. As a private school they did not have a mandate to accommodate… read more
Does anyone have experience with using the montessori method for autism? Was it successful for your child? What benefits does it have in comparison to other traditional pre-schools? I am exploring this option for my 3 year old and would love any insights from parents who have gone down this path already.
Thanks!
Just a quick update -
So for I have visited two Montessori schools in the area. I brought my son to the first, and left him home for the 2nd school visit since he had the sniffles.
The first… read more
Does anyone have experience enrolling with Montessori programs? We’re struggling with a public elementary school and considering a switch. Would love to hear whether the Montessori approach was beneficial for any kiddos (or not).
I posted this above and it applies here: We tried a great Montessori school when our son (also high functioning in the spectrum) was asked to leave his daycare just under age three. It was a huge help… read more
I just found out that my 19 month old has this variation (through a chromosome microarray). There seems to be more information related to 16p11.2 deletion over the duplication. Anyone else's child have this? Can I hear from your experiences? We are slated to see a geneticist in September. Thanks in advance!
Oh my gosh-thank you so much for this!
My son is high functioning leaning toward Aspergers, he has no friends and it is breaking my heart. I am considering a Montessori or Waldorf school where they would have smaller classrooms and where the children might be more inclusive, where they might make more of an effort to be his friend. Though if he is the one who is not interested in developing friendships then it will not be worth moving him out of public school.
I have heard that about a social skills group at VIA, I should check it out, but I have been lazy lately.
My son was recently diagnosed with Autism a few weeks ago. I have been considering enrolling him into a Montessori School. This particular school works with ABA Outreach Services, the behavioral therapy provider that I am considering. He is currently going to pre-school half a day through the school district we live in and we love his teacher but the school has already stated they will not provide him with the speech therapy that he needs for pragmatic language. I am just wondering if anyone… read more
