Hello, we've heard great things about the school districts in Irvine. My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with moderate ASD. She's been in a special day class in San Leandro, CA and has been in every type of service since she was initially diagnosed (private OT, ABA, Speech and music therapy). The school has offered the basics, and not even OT! After sending letters she will finally have an assessment. She is transitioning to Kinder. At this point we are willing to move wherever services are… read more
I cannot help you with good schools in Irvine. But I can tell you. California has a lot of fantastic laws that protect parents, especially when it comes to getting records And most importantly all the… read more

My son attends a cyber charter and I was looking into possibly sending him to another school, but I need a referral from our home school district's department of special education. Because the cyber school is considered part of the public school system; would I contact the local board of education?

I had an IEP meeting the other day. I had received a form that was labeled as a IEP Summary. I have received in the past a IEP document that would list my son's accomplishments, academic and relative service goals that was set.
The summary included the relative services, and academic goals. The Academic goals were set as a yearly goal instead of a quarterly. The relative services were not invited to this meeting; even though I have asked prior to the meeting if they were aware of it.
@ crimsonwife it was suppose to be in reference to his ESY. It was like everything was rolled into one, because it covered his goals during the whole school year. This meeting last for thirty minutes.
thats also a great idea. you can go to apple.com and they have the refurbished items for less than brand new.. but they come with warranty and everything.
I received communication that my son was due for an RR. (reevaluation) Which I guess would help with the I.E.P. process if new information needed to be added, so a plan could develop based on his needs.
Every 3 years the team (IEP team - which must be gen ed teacher, sped. teacher., administrator, and parents at least but can involve others if child receives speech or OT) must meet to determine if… read more

One I.E.P. team member had suggested T.S.S, son had that when he was in Kindergarten, but they could fully participate in the I.E.P. or add any of the goals that he was working on into his progress report, and I.E.P.
When my son went to the public school. No matter how much I fought he didn't get more time. I ended up pulling him out of the public school. I pulled him out for other reasons too.
I am living in Malaysia
The definition of homeschool here is a center setup with small number of students. (Homeschool here may have different definition to most other countries, where it means strictly doing studies in own home).
My son is 7 years old, high functioning autism. Currently placed in nursery (preschool daycare)
- Childhood Appraxia of speech (now can say one word or regular word)
- Still doesn't know how to talk or communicate with peers
- not a picky eater.
- doesn't have any… read more
Therefore I ended with Option B, seeing that it has a good ratio mixture of special and normal kids, and teachers are prepared to accept special kids
