My kid who is 2.2yr old and non verbal is on Autism Spectrum.I' am stuck between therapies and my budget. Please help me, what to opt between :ABA therapy(15 hours per week) or holistic program including ABA,ST,OT (15 hours p.w)? Is ABA therapy alone can be useful for her speech and behavior? His motor skills are good .So I mainly wanted to improve his speech and behavior.
And what is the minimum therapy hours to follow for 2.2yr old. Friends any other suggestions?
Hi Raki! I think ABA would be helpful for both speech and behavior if that route is better for your budget, but I think having all three specialties might be more effective. Ask your provider if ABA can be completed with an RBT instead of a BCBA, which tends to be a more affordable option. That way, per budget, you could potentially add speech and OT. Hope this helps!
I definitely think the combination is the best way to go for a 2 yr. old. My son is also nonverbal & ABA was too intense & inflexible for him. I would recommend starting with no more than 2 hours of ABA itself per session/day for his age so as to not overwhelm him. If overwhelmed ABA can be detrimental.
ST is normally a 50 minute session & OT is also. I would go for 3 days per week of ST, more if you can get it. You would base your child’s OT hours based on his fine & gross motor skills level. My best advice is to make sure your child’s therapists are making therapy fun because this is key for his success. My son is 7 yrs. old now & his progress has always depended on the therapist having the right mind set & personality.
