I may have asked this before but I’m asking again because I’m desperate for answers. I’ve searched online and haven’t found any information on what I’m looking for.
What does boredom look like in your ASD kid? What actions do they do when they are bored? How can you tell? If they are not bored just under-stimulated, how do you explain to others the difference??
@A MyAutismTeam Member Thank you so much for your response! You literally described what our son does for sensory seeking that leads to pain seeking. He does all that. He hasn’t let up since we… read more
I think dressing well but he still prefers his old clothes which can be short - trousers
I understand that being autistic that is one of the traits..
I have 4 years old under the spectrum. Since he was two years old he is humping pillows whenever the opportunity comes a home. He does not do such thing at daycare, but whenever he comes home from daycare, he eats and then start humping pillow on the bed. I saw he has erection. Is this normal?. Usually he does that for over 30 minutes. I do really need to know if anybody saw something like this in the past.
My 3 year old grandson has been doing the same thing for a little over a year I notice it more when he is tired
So, I understand there is great debate over the two when it comes to children. However, I wanted to hear from my ASD family on here. When you or your children are bored, how do you or they act? I was raised in foster care so I've had my fair share of boredom. With a non-asd child I would see bored kids do absolutely nothing with a literal boredom on their face. However, with our son he will throw his toys, toss his toys up on the air, or roughly scoot them across floors or make them drop from… read more
Yes his sensory is horrible right now. I think it starts his tantrums and ends in meltdowns.
Many people only know autism from the outside looking in.
I want to help you understand it from an autistic point of view, and learn why we do the things we do!
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, I shared it with my husband. Our son is 18, besides autism he was also diagnosed with intellectual disability. He’s non speaking, however, he can say some… read more
My nonverbal son has a tendency to over eat. For those of you with kids who over eat, especially nonverbal ones, do you let them over eat to avoid meltdowns or do you discourage and distract them from this? My son is a growing teenage boy but I am a tiny bit worried we are teaching him to eat because he is bored as a habit....
To my own understanding as a young mom who never stop searching and observing...I think time heals all thing...I don't know how to put it into writing but my son have changed a lot ..now he's so… read more
My daughter who is 17 with autism, is always asking to go to the bathroom when out or when she is bored. No medical issue . Any ideas for a replacement behavior?
My 12 year old with autism does the same thing. If you find a good replacement let me know as well. Are you in NKCSD?
we are set up pretty daily in a basic routine but I am sooo bored.
I used to get terrible bored...was very isolated no friends anymore and felt 'trapped' in the house with my son. Found out he loved to walk, so started taking walks around the neighborhood everyday… read more
I think my family is getting bored with the usual-Scrabble, Uno, Crazy 8’s, War.

I’ve heard that too much screen time causes autism. And that you can improve autism by spending more time with your child.
Screen time does NOT cause autism. Autism starts in the womb, caused by nothing other than the fact that we are all created to be who we are for a reason 😊 The world needs neurodiversity! Screen time… read more
