Any Play Dates In/around Jacksonville FL?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 10 year old son desperately wants friends. We don't have too many kids in our neighborhood. It would be nice to find some sort of play date with group outings to periodically meet up with so he can have play time with kids his age. He does belong to Scouts but they really don't do that many outings, surprisingly.

Find A Individual Insurance Plan For ABA
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi,

I have 5 years old autistic son and we are leaving in Maryland. My son was receiving ABA therapies from a private company.ABA services were provided almost every working day for 15-16 months.

Unfortunately, on March 1st, our company was reverifying the benefits for the 2016 policy, United Health Care (private insurance from my husband work in Virginia) did find an error in the previously stated benefits
They are stating that this is a small group policy and it does not have ABA therapy… read more

Anyone Ever Had Their Child Prescribed Zoloft For Anxiety In 5 Year Old?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My grandson is 5 years old and was diagnosed as high functioning when he was 3. Since then, his ASD has changed and somewhat progressed. He has recently begun to use the restroom many many times per hour. And wherever they go, store/restaurants, he has to use the restroom there, in many cases, multiple times. The dr believes it is anxiety and prescribed Zoloft.

My daughter is really worried about giving him this medication and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this medicine… read more

How Do I Start Building Family And Friends Support Network?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello everyone
We are at the very beginning of our journey... Since testing takes time, I wanted to be proactive and do as much as I can on my own and with help of our family and friends. How do I introduce them to the issue? How do I ask for appropriate help and support? What is the right thing to say and what is not? Is it ok to ask for monetary help (costs of therapy, dietary supplements, therapeutic accessories, etc) if yes, how to do so in a delicate manner
Thank you for all of your… read more

I Am Very Interested In Learning More About Using Music Therapy To Teach Speech. Does Anyone Know About This?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone know about Auditory Motor Mapping Training or Melodic Intonation Therapy? I have read just enough to get interested in it as a way that maybe I could teach my grandson to talk. He has been in speech therapy in his special ed class for over a year and while I've seen improvement (mostly with ABA) it is pretty slow. Temple Grandin's book,"The Autistic Brain: Thinking Across the Spectrum", says that music therapy has shown significant results in teaching speech. I read the study by Dr… read more

We used a music therapist for about 2 years and only gained a little. But I don't think she had a lot of experience. And she did not use either of those methods mentioned.
